无义介导的RNA降解(nonsense-mediated RNA decay, NMD)是一种在真核生物中保守的RNA质量控制(RNA quality control, RQC)机制, 可调节异常和正常RNA转录本的积累。研究发现,在遭遇病毒侵染时植物能够通过NMD限制病毒的侵染, NMD是植物防御病毒的重要途径。然而, 在病毒和寄主植物的军备竞赛中, 病毒也已经进化出多种策略来避免、对抗或操纵NMD, 成功地在寄主细胞中实现增殖。本文综述了NMD途径的基本信息、植物中NMD途径的独特性、植物通过NMD抵抗病毒侵染的作用方式以及病毒如何抵抗植物的NMD, 展望了该研究方向的未来研究重点。 |

Nonsense-mediated RNA decay (NMD) is a conserved RNA quality control (RQC) mechanism in eukaryotes that modulates the accumulation of both abnormal and normal RNA transcripts. Mounting evidence indicates that NMD is an important antiviral defence mechanism in plants, targeting viral RNA for degradation to limit viral infections. However, in the arms race between plants and viruses, plant viruses have evolved multiple counter-strategies to evade, suppress, or even hijack NMD, thereby ensuring successful replication within host cells. In this review, we summarized the basic process of NMD pathway, the unique aspects of plant NMD, the roles of NMD in antiviral defense, and the various viral strategies to counteract NMD. Additionally, we discussed key outstanding questions and future research directions in this field. |
