Gynaephora spp. poses a significant threat to the grassland ecological environment and the development of animal husbandry in the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. To identify natural enemy insects that can biologically control Gynaephora spp., the present study assessed the predatory capacity of adult Arma chinensis against the sixth-instar larvae of G. menyuanensis and studied the effects of sustained feeding on the growth, development, and reproduction of A. chinensis, aiming to determine the potential of A. chinensis as a biological control agent for G. menyuanensis. The results demonstrated that A. chinensis adults can actively prey on G. menyuanensis larvae and showed high predation ability, with one adult consuming one to two sixth-instar larvae per day. Adult A.chinensis feeding on G. menyuanensis larvae for 28 days were able to survive and reproduce, indicating a high potential for sustainable pest control. There was no significant change in consumption, and the survival rate was more than 80% for A. chinensis adults feeding on G. menyuanensis larvae over a 21-day period. This study is the first to identify and confirm A. chinensis as a natural predator capable of effectively targeting G. menyuanensis larvae. These findings offer valuable insights for utilizing A. chinensis in the management of G. menyuanensis.
