Chocolate spot is an important disease impacting faba bean production in the world, particularly in the main production regions along the southeast coast and the Yangtze River Basin in China, often causing serious yield losses. In this study, a total of 146 faba bean germplasm resources were evaluated for resistance to chocolate spot natural field infection and detached leaf artificial inoculation during 2020 to 2023. Field assessments showed eight resistant (R) germplasms, namely ‘TC-1’ ‘YC-1’ ‘YC-2’ ‘YC-3’ ‘YC-4’ ‘Tong180501’ ‘Tongcanxian 8’ and ‘Tong20606’. Additionally, 49 germplasms were moderately resistant (MR), 77 were susceptible (S) and 12 were highly susceptible (HS). The artificial inoculation test indicated 28 germplasms as moderately resistant (MR), 80 as susceptible (S), 38 as highly susceptible (HS). Based on the results from both natural field infection and artificial inoculation, 24 germplasms demonstrated resistance (R) or moderate resistance (MR) and could serve as foundational resources for breeding faba bean varieties resistant to chocolate spot. |
