To investigate the dynamic changes of resistance-related indicators of potatoes in response to the feeding of potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella Zeller, an indoor potting test was conducted using three potato varieties (‘Qingshu no.9’ ‘Hezuo 88’ ‘Mila’), the physiological resistance-related indices of potato eaten by P.operculella for 0, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72 h, and 96 h were determined for each variety. The results showed that the activities of catalase (CAT), polyphenol oxidase (PPO), terpene synthase (TPS), the content of tannin, and flavonoids in the leaves of potatoes eaten by P.operculella were significantly increased compared to the control group. Conversely, the total amino acid content was significantly decreased, and there are variations in each index among potato varieties. Analysis of the rate of change for each index indicated that ‘Hezuo 88’ exhibited a stronger response to P.operculella feeding compared to ‘Qingshu no.9’ and ‘Mila’, while ‘Mila’ displayed the least response. This study provides a theoretical understanding of potato’s physiological defense mechanisms against pests and supports the development of comprehensive pest control strategies.
