      Molecular detection and bioinformatics analysis were performed to determine whether Nicandra physalodes plants in Yunnan province displaying yellow and crumple symptoms were associated with begomovirus infections. Two complete begomovirus DNA-A molecules and one betasatellite molecule were obtained from infected samples. Sequence comparison revealed that the two DNA-A sequences shared the highest identity (99.3%) with the tomato yellow leaf curl Thailand virus (TYLCTHV) isolate TYLCTHV-YN1732, while the betasatellite shared the highest sequence identity (99.3%) with the tomato leaf curl Yunnan betasatellite (TLCYnB) isolate YN5230. Recombination analysis revealed that the begomovirus infecting Nicandra physalodes was a recombinant virus derived from two potential recombinant events. One recombination event was detected in the coding region of AV1, contributed by tomato yellow leaf curl China virus (TYLCCNV) and euphorbia leaf curl Guangxi virus (EuLCGXV). The other recombination event occurred mainly in the intergenic region (IR), with the two parents being tobacco leaf curl Thailand virus (TbLCTHV) and TYLCTHV. This study recorded Nicandra physalodes as a new host for TYLCTHV. This is the first report of a monopartite begomovirus in association with a betasatellite infecting Nicandra physalodes.
