In order to investigate the control ability of Harmonia axyridis against the invasive pest Spodoptera frugiperda coexisting with the local pest Rhopalosiphum padi, the functional response, searching efficiency and prey selectivity of adults and the 4th-instar larvae of H.axyridis to both 2nd-instar larvae of S. frugiperda and 2nd-instar nymphs of R.padi were studied. The results showed that the predatory functional responses of H. axyridis to both S. frugiperda and R.padi accorded with the Holling Ⅱ model, and the daily predation capacity increased gradually with increasing prey density, and the searching efficiency decreased with increasing prey density. The predation capacities of H. axyridis adults against the 2nd-instar larvae of S. frugiperda and the 2nd-instar nymphs of R.padi were 221.88 and 343.01, respectively, and those of the 4th-instar larvae of H.axyridis against the 2nd-instar larvae of S. frugiperda and the 2nd-instar nymphs of R. padi were 140.88 and 210.93, respectively. This study confirmed that H.axyrids was a good biocontrol agent against S. frugiperda and R.padi; the control effect of adults on the two pests was better than that of the 4th-instar larvae, and the predation selectivity of H. axyrids for R.padi was stronger than for S. frugiperda. |
