| According to field investigations during the winter from December 2019 to early March 2020, Spodoptera frugiperda was confirmed to occur in 183 counties of 47 cities in Yunnan, Guangdong, Hainan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Fujian and Guizhou, China. S.frugiperda populations surviving over the last winter primarily fed on maize, and partly lived on wheat and sugarcane. S.frugiperda adults were trapped in some regions outside the winter breeding area of Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Guizhou provinces. Some larvae (or pupae) were found alive at 30 sites in 27 counties of 16 cities in Zhejiang, Hunan, Jiangxi and Chongqing. The results showed that the winter breeding area is located in the south of 28°N, which is nearly the south of the 10℃ isotherm in January. The overwintering area is between 28°N-31°N, approximately the area between the 6℃ isotherm and 10℃ isotherm in January. |
