| Acoustic communication is an important means of communication in Coleoptera, which plays an important role in species specific communication, sexual selection and predator avoidance. More than 100 years ago, researchers studied beetles’ acoustic communications. This paper presents an overview of acoustic communication in coleopterans, focusing on morphology, generation and function of sound signals, acoustic behaviors and applications. |
